Allaying anxiety - Neurosis treated with homoeopathy

This is a case of a male patient, age 50, suffering from neurosis bordering on psychosis. He is a lean, emaciated person, with premature graying of the hair. He is a policeman by profession. He comes with his wife for Homoeopathic consultation.

The patient came with complaint of lot of sweating at night, low back pain and some red spots near his right shoulder. The patient felt fearful, sometimes on duty. The patient felt a lack of courage while on duty, if he had to catch someone or to go there. He would have the courage if he was accompanied by someone. He had anxiety of how he would handle the crowd when he had to deal with accidents, dead bodies and injured people. He described instances when his fellow policeman ran away from the scene and he had to handle the situation on his own. He described the tremendous amount of fear and anxiety he experienced at that time.

The patient had difficulty mugging up things in school. He described as his brain not working while studying. This patient has a fear that the public might beat him up while on duty, while attending to accidents. He fears journalists that they will report it, although they haven’t so far. There is a fear of being jailed, legal actions. He feels fearful in his dreams. On further inquiry it was found that he felt that he wasn’t a person meant for the police job. He had inherited it from his father who was in the police force.

The patient had difficulty in talking to strangers. The patient’s wife says that he is constantly feeling that people are looking at him, spying at him and taking his photograph, and that they will report it to the press.
Considering this history, a suitable homoeopathic remedy was prescribed to him.
Follow-up after 10 months:

There has been a remarkable improvement in this case of borderline psychosis, in which the patient was almost on the verge of starting antipsychotic drugs. His whole state has undergone a lot of change. All of his obsessive thoughts and fears have reduced by more than 70%. There are still instances where people try to fool him or scare him, but he feels much more capable within himself to tackle such situations. He feels eager to go and work, whereas he used to try to avoid it. The feeling of being a criminal has been replaced by courage and an increased sense of responsibility. He says with a smile on his face, “I gather courage to do my duty.”

This is one of the beautiful out comes of Homoeopathy, when a patient who was previously dependent, fearful and incapable becomes courageous, independent and in charge of their own life. The patient’s appetite has improved, and he has put on a little weight. He looks much calmer, brighter and bolder. He still comes for follow-ups, but infrequently now, as his dependency on Homoeopathy has reduced. He enjoys life and takes each day as it comes. It is most gratifying to have been able to help him, and to see a confident smile on his face.
