National Homeopathic Mega Seminar

Three years after the mega – seminar “Sensation to Synergy”, we bring back Dr. Sankaran to Pune.
Dr. Sankaran’s latest innovation “The eight box method” will be illustrated. The 8 box method is based on the concept of exactness and completeness. It includes all the tools and levels developed so far in a very harmonious way for achieving the most consistent results in practice. This will be illustrated through various cases including Pathological Cases.

The 8-Box tool helps us to qualify and organize the key aspects of a case. These 8 boxes help us to arrange the symptoms into a structured view of the otherwise scattered symptoms.

The 8 boxes can be flexibly tailored according to the information available from the patient. If a patient is not able to give us ample information that fills all of the 8 boxes, we have the flexibility and freedom to drop a few boxes. We must safely rely on the exact and complete symptoms received from the patient, and disregard any of the unclear symptoms.

Essentially, the 8-Box Case Analysis tool allows for the homeopath to clearly map out the patient’s life and symptoms. While each individual box reveals finer and more peculiar symptoms of the case, a glance at the entire table reveals the pattern or the essence of the patient.

2. Who can attend it?

Anyone can attend the seminars, whether you are a practitioner or student. The 8-Box Method is a reproducible analysis tool that is used to find the most correct remedy and is a step forward in the way we analyze a case. Students and practitioners have found that this analysis method is one of the simplest and most reproducible approaches I have taught so far allowing for consistent positive results in practice.

3. I am following Sensation for many years, then would it help me if I attend this seminar?

Yes this seminar will help if you have been studying Sensation for many years. It is an evolution in the process of case analysis and it makes our job easier and more organised.

4. I have never heard Dr Sankaran, would it help me if I attend this seminar?

Dr. Rajan Sankaran is internationally renowned as a clear thinker and is best known for his path breaking concepts, especially his understanding of disease as a delusion, his use of mind symptoms and dreams, his classification of remedy states into kingdoms and his additions to the existing miasms. His recent work on the plant kingdom, the seven levels and new 8-box analysis, is fast gaining in popularity and promises to revolutionize Homoeopathy. He is the head of the other song: International Academy of Advanced Homeopathy in Mumbai, India.

5. What would I gain from attending this seminar?

The 8-Box tool helps us to qualify and organize the key aspects of a case. Typically, when we end up in a maze of symptoms at the end of the case taking, we are confused as to where to begin. To make this process simpler, these 8 boxes help us to arrange the symptoms into a structured view of the otherwise
scattered symptoms. Once the data has been arranged in the above boxes, we may begin analyzing the box that has the most clear, sure or peculiar aspects of the case. In the end, the idea is to achieve a synergy and find a remedy that encompasses all aspects of the case including the genius, symptom and system.

CHILDREN, MENTAL HEALTH AND HOMEOPATHIC MEDICINES - AUTISM & ADHD

Visit the other song homeopathy clinic

A child is the heart of every home. It is indeed great joy for every parent to see their child healthy and growing heartily. Physical well-being helps the child grow and develop soundly. But at the same time, it is very important to understand that the emotional well-being of children is equivalently important as their physical health. Children are the young minds of today and the future of tomorrow, a healthy well-being today helps in the long term demands of tomorrow. A healthy balance between both helps children to cope up with the various challenges that life throws at them during different phases and even helps provide a strong ground for developing into healthy adults.

Environmental factors, surroundings, parent-child relationship, genetic inheritance, peer pressure, stress etc….are the different factors that usually affect a child’s emotional and behavioral health.
Today mental illnesses are very commonly found in children and young adults all over the world.

One in ten children usually suffers from some or the other emotional or behavioral aberration. It is very essential to recognize and treat these at the earliest, as once the pattern develops, it becomes a regular part of the child’s behavior and is then very difficult to treat. Let us have a look in to some of the most common disorders seen in children:

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

This is one of the most common childhood disorders which can continue through adolescence and
adulthood. Despite being one of the most common disorders in children, its cause still remains a
mystery. The probable causes include those from interactions between genetic and environmental
factors. Children with ADHD usually have problems in paying attention or in concentrating. It becomes difficult for them to follow instructions. Often these children are restless, finding it difficult to be seated or concentrate for longer than a few moments. Impulsive behavior is also common in these children.

Symptoms of ADHD commonly include:

• Inattention (being easily distracted, daydreaming, confusion, changing frequently from one task to another etc)
• Hyperactivity (restlessness, talking excessively, running from one place to another or changing places frequently etc)
• Inability to learn and get along with others There is no specific treatment for ADHD. However
children with ADHD need attention, consistency and a clear communication. A healthy parent-child
relationship with lots of love and encouragement goes a long way in improving this condition.

Behavioral problems and Conduct Disorders:
Children usually have bouts of bad behavior. They may behave rudely, scream, throw temper tantrums, fight with siblings, steal things, bully other children, and behave mischievously in class.

These may manifest as disturbance in:
• Emotions - like anxiety or depression
• Behavior - like aggression and bouts of anger
• Mental performance - like problems at school or learning centers
• Physical function - like psychogenic disorders These disorders may be a result of various factors
such as the disharmonious parent-child relationship, family or marital problems, child abuse or neglect, chronic illness, injury, separation or bereavement.

Problems in children are often multifactorial and their manner of expression too varies in relation
to various stresses they go through, family issues, temperament and their surroundings. Children
usually do not express their behavior or reactions to different events at once; they build up often to be
expressed later. In stressful situations, young children usually tend to react with disturbed physiological functions such as eating and sleeping disturbances.

Older children may exhibit disturbances in relationships with friends and family, poor school
performance or development of various fears and phobias. These can pose a difficulty for the parents
to judge whether this behavior is normal or aberrant enough to require help. A doctor requires taking
into account the frequency, range and intensity of symptoms and the extent to which they cause
impairment.

Autism

Autism is a complex developmental disability. It usually presents itself during the first three years
of life. It is as a result of neurodevelopmental disorder which has an effect on the normal brain
function, affecting development of the individual’s communication and social interaction skills.
Children with autism have trouble communicating and understanding what other people think and feel which makes it very difficult for them to express themselves either through words and gestures, facial expressions or touch. Autism is said to progress with age, hence it is essential to seek help as soon as one notices its symptoms.

Early signs of autism in young child include:
• Does not make eye contact easily
• Does not smile when smiled at
• Does not respond to his or her name or to the
sound of a familiar voice
• Does not make use of gestures to communicate
• Does not make noises to get attention
• Does not initiate or respond to cuddling
• Does not reach out to be picked up
• Does not play with other people, or share interest and enjoyment

Children are like soft clay, they mould or shape the way they are brought up and treated. A healthy parent-child relationship, good surroundings and understanding are the few basic essentials that help in the development of the child’s mental well-being. Homoeopathy offers a very good treatment for children who have emotional and behavioural problems. Homooepathy focuses on the patient as a person and just not the behavioural anomaly, helping to heal the child overall. The behavioural and the emotional trends are studied in detail and the characteristic patterns are matched to the pattern of a remedy which is prepared from nature. The treatment in such cases based on this individualistic and holistic principles yields very encouraging results. There have been many cases of special children too that Homoeopathy has been helped successfully.

Autism - treatment with homeopathic medicines

Let us see one case of a special child who was seen at the other song by Dr. Rajan Sankaran, Head of the other song - Clinic and International Academy of Advanced Homoeopathy. This was a case of a 10 year old child, who had been diagnosed with Autism spectrum disorder and was very hyperactive.

From birth, all his milestones were delayed. The parents and the grandparents were anxious. The behaviour of the child in social gatherings would be embarrassing for them as the child was extremely restless and would not sit still for a minute. His talks were very immature and disconnected. He was extremely poor at studies and could not focus. He would find it very difficult to read and write. When the child was asked to talk about himself, he was started off with disconnected talks, and then went on to describe himself. The patient had met with a grave accident when he was travelling with his family by car. Since then he was very afraid of travelling and even of crossing roads. This fear was reflected in his daily talks too, when he would abruptly describe the accident and talk about his fear concerning the same.

The child was very timid by nature and also had many other fears. He was very scared of firecrackers and insects. He would not go alone in the dark as he was scared of ghosts. He could not stay alone and would always require company. He was extremely scared of crossing the street and would cling to his parents when doing so. Many things scared him; he would also startle with the slightest of noise. This gave us a fair idea of him as a person. But what needed to be found out now was the underlying theme behind all these fears. When asked tactfully, it became apparent that the child was very sensitive to being injured and he was afraid he would hurt himself or die. The parents reported that the child was very sensitive to reprimands and would weep when scolded. The child had intense craving for sweets.

Taking into consideration his complaint presentation and also his nature as a person, with the  common theme of fear of being hurt, he was given a medicine which acted wonders. The child’s behaviour showed a marked improvement. After a year and half of starting the medicines, the child’s parents and the teachers observed that he was much well behaved.

His talks were now cohesive and comprehensive. His attention span improved resulting in an improvement in studies too. His fear too had reduced, he was calmer and not as restless too. The parents remarked that he was now almost normal and he seemed like other normal children only.

Thus Homoeopathy has the potential to bring about remarkable changes in cases of children
with behavioural problems. The primary requisite in such cases is a careful observation of the child’s
behaviour by the parents and a detailed case-taking by the homoeopath to carefully elicit the innermost disease, his experience by reaching beyond the obvious presenting symptoms.

Need for suicide prevention

September 10 is Suicide Prevention Day. Let us take a look at why we need to understand and help suicide prevention, why it is the need of the hour…

Suicide is the second leading cause of death among teenagers in the United States. About eight lakh people commit suicide worldwide every year, India, the nation with 17.5 per cent of world population accounts for about 17% of suicide rates. The last two decades have shown alarming increase in suicide rates with higher ratio in the southern and eastern states. Tamil Nadu accounts for 12.5%, Maharashtra is 11.9% and West Bengal 11.0%.
WHO statistics estimate the age standardized suicide rate in India is 16.4 per 100,000 for women, that accounts for the 6th highest in the world and 25.8 for men, ranking 22nd.

TELL-TALE SIGNS

Most depression cases and suicidal tendencies go unnoticed by even the closest of kin. It is rare that a patient talks about the depression by himself and seeks help. Those most prone include those depressed, or substance abusers, those with chronic pain, and illness, history of suicide, and family history of mental disorders or suicidal tendencies or having a violent family history.

·      Talking about death and the want to die.
·      Talking about emptiness, hopelessness and the loss of will to live.
·      Searching for ways to kill themselves and at times, discussing the same.
·      Guilt ridden
·      Feeling trapped
·      Expressing severe emotional and physical pain or trauma
·      Withdrawal from society
·      Uncharacteristically giving away material things
·      Rage and revengefulness
·      Extreme mood swings
·      Bidding goodbye to close ones
·      Suddenly deciding to make a will
·      Talking of being a burden
·      Severe anxiety
·      Drug or alcohol abuse
·      Change in eating and sleeping patterns

One must keep his eyes open to see the red flag or the telltale symptoms of suicide-prone close ones. Noticing the red flag helps.
Noticing the same and lending a hand and seeking help at the right time can help save a life.

HOW DOES HOMEOPATHY HELP

Homoeopathy strives to treat psychic conditions related to suicidal tendencies by addressing the root cause and the individual’s susceptibility quotient. The cause, sensations and modalities decide the individualized remedy selection and treatment.
Homoeopathy helps treat fearfulness about the future helplessness, inaptitude for work, loathing of life, sadness and weeping; anxious reflection in relation to the present or future, gayety and fury, senseless frenzy, timidity, restlessness, constriction between mind and will, suicidal ideas and insanity from depressing emotional troubles; hallucinations, fear of failure melancholy, extreme sensitivity among others.

In other words, it helps an individual change his perspective towards life for the better, thus helping alleviate his suicidal tendencies to a great extent.

Health Care During Monsoon

Here comes the monsoon…and with it comes a much awaited relief from the long spell of the scorching and sultry summer. It is the best season for one to rejuvenate!

However, with the sigh of relief, also comes along a host of disease producing factors for which one needs to take timely and apt precautions.

Diseases that are spread during monsoon are basically water borne and gastrointestinal infections. Typhoid, diarrhea and jaundice are also common. Accumulation of water on the roads promotes the growth of the mosquitoes causing malaria and dengue. Eye flu and infections of the foot are also observed in this season. Also diseases like dryness, spasmodic pain, high blood pressure, gas formation and gastric disturbances occur frequently. Also one comes across cases of viral attacks and coughs and colds.

Following are a few safeguards that one can observe to simply enjoy the beautiful monsoon weather without any botheration:

Dietary care:

  • During monsoon, intestinal functions along with the digestive system become weak, and thus make the body highly susceptible to any kind of infection. Wash all fruits and vegetables thoroughly, particularly leafy vegetables and cauliflower, which not only contain larvae and worms, but also collect dirt from the streets.
  • Always eat light food and avoid as far as possible too much of spicy and fried foods.
  • Avoid consuming food that is exposed to the surroundings for quite a long time since food that is exposed for a long time is contaminated by the germs, which if enter the body, may cause various infections. Flies that are the most common carriers of germs mostly cause contamination. Therefore, remember to cook the vegetables well and steam them properly to kill the germ content in them, if any.

Importance of drinking boiled water:

  • Sewage and drain pipes lie close to each other, and in the monsoon these pipes develop leaks - with the result that the sewage water comes into contact with regular water. Many diseases like cholera are spread through faeces, and plus there are a host of other water borne diseases. Hence do not drink water which is not properly boiled and stored. Drinking water should be boiled and properly filtered. It is best advisable to drink warm water with the meals for easy digestion.

Precautions for diabetic patients:

  • Diabetic patients need to take extra care of their feet during the monsoon season. These patients should take specific care, as not to walk barefoot since the soil on which they walk is a reservoir for all types of germs.

Precautions for asthmatic patients:

  • Asthmatic patients also need to take special care during monsoon and they should ensure that there is no accumulation and seepage of water from the vicinity of their residence since that will cause severe health problems. They should also ensure that a fungus does not grow in the wooden furniture and in other articles like shoes and leather bags.

Coping with mosquitoes:

  • Prohibit mosquito breeding since they are also carriers of deadly germs which can give rise to malaria and dengue, which at times can also be lethal. Do not let water accumulate in your surroundings. Mosquito nets or repellents should be used wherever possible.

Precautions from electrical injuries:

  • Apart from naturally occurring diseases described above, electrical injuries due to leakage of current, water dripping on to live electrical wiring, electrocution is also common. It would be wise to give a thorough check-up to the wirings, switches, plugs and positioning of wires around the house. Furthermore, do not forget the electrical appliances. In case they have any faults, attend to them at the earliest. A stitch in time saves nine. Never handle electricity barefoot or with wet clothes and shoes. You could get a nasty shock.

Precautions for children playing in the rain:

  • Also take care of your children who love to splash through waterlogged streets, this could be dangerous. Water logging conceals a lot of rubbish spilling over from dustbins, drains and manholes. It often contains glass pieces, stone chips, insects and other substances. These can inflict serious injuries on tender bare feet. Furthermore, there is always an open manhole lurking somewhere to gobble up an unwary child.

Exercises:

  • Exercise is an important part of your monsoon health care regime and it is very essential to look at different forms of indoor exercise regime especially for all those who love outdoor activities. Like hitting a gymnasium or doing simple exercises even at home or yoga, etc, would be a good option.

Skin infections:

  • Taking due care of skin, more so for people prone to or suffering from fungal infections especially of the feet. As getting wet or staying soaked in the rain for long can lead to or aggravate skin troubles.

Thus a little effort on your part coupled with care and caution can really help you enjoy this monsoon to its fullest. Be extra alert and observe these safety guidelines.

Wish you a safe monsoon!
