RPM and HALO - A new way of looking at Autism

After a successful workshop on RPM at the other song clinic last year we bring to you another round of RPM on 15th and 16th of November 2017

Who is Ms. Soma Mukopadhay?

Soma is a teacher and mother from India who represents this demographic perfectly. She is the creator and developer of the trademarked Rapid Prompting Method (RPM), which is a new way of looking at the prominent epidemic of Autism, and it is giving hopes to many.

Her contribution to Autism awareness and education.

Soma has a severely autistic son, Tito, who is now a teenager. With little professional guidance or assistance, Soma took care of her son's education and development. Soma holds advanced degrees in chemistry, but she had no formal training in Autism before having her son. He was diagnosed with Autism when he was 3 years, and Soma was told to “just keep him busy”.

She went above and beyond busy, by providing him with her own intensive educational curriculum. The activities included reading textbooks and classics, prompting him to point to numbers and letter, and physically monitoring his body through the motions like bicycle riding. Soma was her son's tireless taskmaster, but the work paid off and the fruits of her labor ripened. By the time her son was six-years-old, he could write independently.Incredibly, her son is now a published writer and poet despite of his severe Autism.

In popular media

Soma's work garnered national attention. She and her son Tito have been featured on 60 minutes II, Good Morning America, Scientific American, the New York Times, National Geographic and numerous other media platforms (http://www.halo-soma.org/about_soma_tito.php).

What Is RPM?

RPM uses a Teach-Ask paradigm for eliciting responses through intensive verbal, auditory, visual and/or tactile prompts.

Soma uses RPM to teach academics and communication by eliciting responses through intensive verbal, auditory, visual and/or tactile prompts. Her prompting is designed to keep students focused and successful. RPM is designed to activate the reasoning part of the brain so that the student is distracted by and engaged in learning.
