What is Dengue?
1. It is a viral illness that may cause fever and/ or bleeding
2. The virus is transmitted into the human body by a mosquito
3. The mosquitoes responsible for it are active only during the day time
What are the symptoms of Dengue?
1. The symptoms include high grade fever, often going up to 106 degrees Fahrenheit, severe muscle, joints and bone pains, headache
2. One may also have rashes on the skin, nausea and vomiting and sometimes bleeding from nose and gums
3. In certain cases, there is excessive bleeding and edema or fluid collection in the lungs
Why does bleeding occur?
1. The blood vessels become leaky causing the blood to leak outside the vessels
2. The platelets responsible for clotting the blood reduce in number causing delay on clotting

1. Cases across the Americas, South-East Asia and Western Pacific exceeded 1.2 million in 2008 and over 3 million in 2013
Homoeopathic treatment of dengue
This is a case of boy aged 23 years. He is under constitutional treatment for brain tumor. He is responding to belladonna where his frequency and intensity of convulsion have come down. On 29th September 2015 evening he had fever. He was called to the clinic the next day. He complains of severe weakness so much so that even climbing a few steps was difficult for him. He was very drowsy and did not wish to wake up. His fever started with chills from the teeth and then spread to the whole body. He experienced shivering with chill and was worse by cold air. The fever remained around 101. He did not wish to move and wanted to remain in bed. His appetite and thirst had reduced. He desired nothing, didn’t like water.
He did not want anyone talking loudly. There was some difference of opinion with mother and he got very upset because of the loud noise. Even if two people were talking, he couldn’t take that. He asked them to go out and talk. He came to Dr. Devang’s consulting room and said that “doctor can you please pull the curtain down because I cannot bear any form of light.” He did not want to look at anyone and he just wanted to lie down. He wished that no one should bother him.
Considering these symptoms, he was prescribed Nux Vomica 200 every four hours.
Follow up after 2 days
3rd October 2015: He was 60% better. Appetite has come back.. Body ache was persistent. Fever remained around 99 degrees Fahrenheit. But his platelets dropped from 2,25,00 to 1,89,000. This is where Dr Devang suspected that the patient had dengue fever. The parents were assured not to panic and that we could help with homoeopathy. He was asked to get a platelet count done every day. The medicine was continued 4 times a day for the next three days
4th October: He developed severe itching and red urticarial rash all over the body. The rash was worse by touch and better by cold application. He was asked to apply plain moisturizer or coconut oil. At this point he was asked to get the IgM and IgG antibodies for dengue. The IgM was strongly positive which confirmed Dr. Devang’s clinical diagnosis of dengue. His platelets further dropped to 1,79,000.he didn’t have fever and weakness and body ache was 50% better, sensitivity to noise and light 50% better. He was asked to take the medicine twice a day
5th October 2015: The patient did not have fever, appetite was normal
7th October: Dr Devang spoke to him on phone and his platelets were 2,00,000. There was no other complaints except mild weakness which remain after viral fever. The medicine was continued twice a day. He was asked to have lot of fluids.
10th October 2015: the patient was symptom free. Platelet count was 3,69,000, WBC count was 6500 and
Hemoglobin was 13.5. The patient was asked to stop medicines.
