Kidney stones are the third most common affliction of the urinary tract. Urine has all the ingredients that form the stone, but all these ideally pass through without our knowledge. When there is an imbalance in any of these substances, the crystals cluster together into stones. The size of the stone can be as small as a grain of sand to one as large as the size of a tennis ball. Up to 98% of urinary tract stones with size less than 5 mm in diameter, especially in the distal ureter, pass spontaneously. Stones of size greater than that almost always require surgical intervention. Shock wave lithotripsy is recommended as the first line of conventional treatment but in all such cases Homoeopathic treatment has its scope and if arrived at the suitable remedy then it can work wonders!
Let us understand it with the help of a case
A 32 yr old female came to me with complaint of severe pain in abdomen and back, pain was shifting type, she was in severe agony and frequent urge to urinate. She had high degree of pain before urination. Associated with acidity and indigestion mostly in evening hours, says no appetite these days due to pain in flanks. She describes pain as wave like and sudden sparkling pain. There as burning before urination, vomiting severe episodes with pain.
Her CT scan revealed multiple calculus, report as follows:
Whenever the problem is at the level of metabolism, remedy needs to be selected on the basis of totality.
Multiple stone were passed in morning with severe pain while urinating and there were frequent episodes for urinating where in she passed many stones.

She had history of recurrent stones, so investigated further
Her blood reports showed: Increased uric acid and PTH(parathyroid hormone) levels, and many calculi in both kidneys.
These are due to faulty metabolism, she had this history of renal stones 2 years back. She had already been to other doctor who had prescribed homoeopathic medicines. So in this case I took more of the background history as the complaint was due to metabolic disorder. When I probed further in her case, I was expecting some stressful situation.
I found that she had issue at her work place and at home. Her situation was she needs stability in her work where she feels lack of confidence, feels her opinion is not valued. work is not appreciated, fear before new assignment, timid in public to share her opinion but would weep easily in front of all. Also had history of ovarian cyst and fibroid. She has allergic rhinitis with every season change.

Considering the case in totality, suitable homoeopathic medication was given to the patient along with dietary avice
In a week’s time she called up in morning and said to visit urgently, she had passed stones!

General management along with treatment:
1. Fluid intake should he high at all times mostly at bed time.
2. I also advice patients to use barley water which helps in flushing out the stones.
3. Avoidance of milk, cheese and great deal of calcium should be advised.
4. Vitamin D should be stopped or used in very low quantity.
5. Eggs, meat and fish are high in sulphur containing proteins and should be stopped in patients with cystinuria.
